There are probably dozens of pool pump mistakes out there. You need to reach in there and get the gunk out. The pump basket should be cleared out weekly and even more frequently during the fall and spring when there is more debris in the pool. Learn more here about how to clean your pump strainer basket. Running Pump Too Little or Too Much Some pool owners, desperate to save money on their electric bills, actually cost themselves more in the long run by not running the pump long enough. To maintain water quality and safety, all of the water in your pool should be turned over meaning filtered once a day. Depending on the gallons per minute your pump is moving, this usually takes 8 — 12 hours. On the flip side, there is running the pump too long. It drains both energy and money while causing unnecessary strain on the pool pump motor.

As you head on out to the backyard this spring, you may be surprised at what you find. Skimmers can crack even in the mildest of winters. Or, if you are planning on a new liner you may want a nice new skimmer box to go along with it. Skimmer replacement is easy — you just need to know what type you have.
When the pool has been sufficiently cleaned, pull the vacuum hose out of the suction hole in the skimmer and wash the hose and head with fresh water to remove chemicals, which could decrease the life of the equipment, and store them in a shaded area.
A skimmer is meant to preserve a clean pool surface by helping you get rid of floating leaves, bugs, twigs and other debris. It’s also important to preserve your pool filter. What to look for Before reading the features and specs of a skimmer, always check its purpose: If you are planning an installation of a new floating automated skimmer for your in-ground pool, check the dimensions of extension parts and joints of the product against your pool outlet diameter.
Again check for compatibility, extension parts dimensions and ease of mounting. In addition to automated skimmers, you can skim debris out of your swimming pool with a wide selection of hand skimmers. When buying these, check for the durability of the pole and frame material, how long the pole is and how fine mesh is.

Oct 19, · The best way is to put the hose in the water, take the vacuum end, put it up to the pool “jet” (output of water flow). This will fill the hose with water. Leave the hose in the water, place the vacuum head to the end of the hose, and then connect to the filter suction end%().
How to Switch From a Skimmer to a Main Drain Maintaining a sparkling, clean in-ground swimming pool requires a multitiered approach. Proper balance of pH and chlorine are the first level. Control of debris and foreign matter is next. Small particulates suspended in the pool are removed by the normal circulation of water through the filter. Larger, floating debris such as leaves are trapped in strainer baskets as the water passes through the skimmer or may be manually scooped out as required using a skimmer net on a telescoping pole.
Dirt, debris and other contaminants that sink to the bottom of the pool, however, usually require vacuuming. Hardware Pool vacuum heads are designed to attach to a universal snap fitting on the end of a telescoping pole that extends to a full length of 12 feet to 16 feet. This is the same pole that typically also accommodates a skimmer net, a pool brush and a hook for retrieving rafts and other flotation devices from the pool.

Pool Ladder Above Ground Pools are no fun unless you can get in it and eventually, when you’re as wrinkled as a raisin, you’ll want to get out. Above ground pool steps and ladders are made from sturdy, waterproof resin. Weight limits vary so these are important to check if body weight is an issue. Be sure the ladder or steps you choose will be safe and able to hold up anyone who might use your above ground pool.
You also want to consider what will be safest and easiest for children and the elderly to climb. There are many ways to make your aquatic entrance, from the humble to the grand. The most basic is an above ground pool ladder. Single-sided or in-pool ladders are for use with an aboveground pool deck. The ladder attaches to the deck and goes into the above ground pool. A-frame ladders are double-sided for above ground pools without decks. If you decide to build a deck later on, a useful product is the A-frame conversion kit which allows you to separate the two halves of a Vinyl Works A-frame ladder.
One can then be used to enter the deck from the ground while the other goes from the deck into the above ground pool. An optional ladder pad can be added to place between the ladder and the above ground pool liner.
Where do you hook your pool vac up in the pool?
Cleaner doesn’t back up. Hold the back up valve out of the water and verify that it cycles on and off. A complete cycle takes about three minutes.
To hook up hoses to a pool pump and filter, attach the other end of the hose from the skimmer pipe to the pump, connect the opposite end of the return hose to the pool filter valve, and attach another hose to connect the pool pump and filter together.
Generally, above ground liners last 10 years or so, depending on the quality of the pool liner and the care given to the water chemistry. Over time, harsh water conditions can deplete the plasticizers within vinyl and cause your vinyl liner to become brittle and stiff. Eventually, all liners will fail, some gradually, some tragically and all at once.
Your pool liner also may become a victim to animal damage, ice damage, or a team of soccer players who forgot to remove their cleats before swimming. More likely, it will develop pinholes in areas of chemical degradation, or when becoming stiff and “crispy” after years of low pH or high chlorine levels, it may suddenly “snap” one day, creating a long horizontal tear along the wall which cannot be patched.
In any case, all liners fail, so this blog post is for those DIY-ers who wish to save big bucks by changing their own above ground pool liners. You can do it! Order your new vinyl pool liner. Measure carefully before ordering.
