Polk Somebody recently asked me what I enjoyed the most about RVing. It didn’t take long for me to respond that it was the people you meet at the campground. I don’t know of anywhere else that you can meet complete strangers and within a couple of hours feel as if you’ve known them forever. People at campgrounds are some of the friendliest most helpful people you will ever meet. I have seen it time and again when a camper pulls in and they are having problems with something and their next door neighbor, whom they never met, is right there to assist them. I have also observed and assisted several campers who were new to RVing and not really sure how to set their unit up when they arrive at the campground.

Watching television in a traditional stick and-brick residence is pretty straightforward. Over-the-air broadcast television can be viewed on either a digital TV or an analog TV equipped with a converter box. If you aren’t satisfied with over-the-air content, you can call your local cable company or a satellite provider and have them come to your home and set up a system of your choosing. Unfortunately, it isn’t quite that simple for motorhome owners because of the very nature of their travel lifestyle.

A while back I wrote a widely read story on how we set our Navion up for watching TV. I talked about off-the-air and satellite solutions. But, increasingly our home television viewing habits have been changing. Rarely do we watch anything in real time outside of sports and news. I also added an AppleTV the mix. If you have a data plan through a cell carrier then, depending where you are, you may be able to get a good 4G or LTE data signal that can handle a big data stream.
However, that can be very, very expensive as a two hour movie can chew through gigabytes of a data plan. However, many carriers quietly start to limit your bandwidth speed on these types of plans. So if you have an AppleTV, Roku, Chromecast, or Fire streaming player it can be pretty hit or miss if you want to fire up for an evening of streaming TV viewing. Taking your home system with you on the road By Cliff Maurand We’ve read a lot of input lately from people who had home Satellite systems, and desired to take it with them on the road. This is particularly interesting for those that full time, or travel a lot and want to keep in tune with what’s going on in the world. Not everyone heads for the campground to become one with nature, but those are the purist who usually still camp in a tent.
For the avid RV’er the playing field is a little more sophisticated, and bringing a wireless cable connection with you can be very desireable.

You’ve received some good responses but none gave you a crisp, clear set of directions for what you should do; so I’m going to try to do that. My suggestion is to decide if you want a DVR or just a receiver for the MH and then to just purchase it from Amazon or Solid Signal or any other website of your choice. As far as DirecTV is concerned, the device will still be leased, but it keeps them out of the loop. Before placing the order you should determine if your Trav’ler is the newer SWM model or if it is the older SK multiswitch model.
An older Trav’ler can be converted to SWM but that’s an additional step that you don’t have to do. Once you receive the new device, take it out to the MH and connect it up. If you have a SWM Trav’ler all devices will connect with a single coax; if yours is the older model a DVR will require two coaxes for full functionality. Once you have it connected let the Trav’ler find the satellites it doesn’t rely on the receiver for this and then turn on the TV and begin the receiver setup.
Once you have finished all the setup steps go to the DirecTV website and activate the device by entering the appropriate information into the Add A Device screens. If you’ve followed all the directions you should now be receiving DirecTV on that new device. The channels you will get on your new receiver will be the same as you currently have in your home.
It you press on that too hard you will find yourself with an entirely separate account for the MH which will be a more expensive solution.

It’s the time to haul out the heavy equipment, like the big stereo for impromptu dance-offs and the big screen for fans to ogle. If you plan to go all out with your buddies this year, you need to know how to set up a DirecTV satellite dish for tailgating. Make every game count by investing in a killer setup that scores big with your friends every time you get together.

Most of our customers have the service installed in their primary residence as well as their camper.
